Tyshun Raequan "Deebo" Samuel Sr. (born January 15, 1996) is an American football wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League (NFL). Samuel played college football at South Carolina, where he was named MVP of the 2019 Outback Bowl. He was selected by the 49ers in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

Early Life and Career

Samuel was born in Inman, South Carolina. He attendedChapman High School, where he played football, basketball, and track and field. As a senior, he caught 45 passes for 1,033 yards and 15 touchdowns, and rushed for 1,425 yards and 20 touchdowns. He was named the Region 1-AAA Offensive Player of the Year. Samuel committed to play college football at South Carolina. As a freshman in 2015, he started all 13 games and caught 59 passes for 787 yards and five touchdowns. As a sophomore in 2016, he caught 54 passes for 733 yards and nine touchdowns. As a junior in 2017, he caught 48 passes for 679 yards and four touchdowns. In 2018, Samuel was named a preseason All-American by Sporting News. He caught 62 passes for 882 yards and 11 touchdowns, and rushed for 106 yards and two touchdowns.

NFL Career

Samuel was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the second round (36th overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft. As a rookie, he caught 29 passes for 391 yards and three touchdowns. In 2020, Samuel had a breakout season, catching 60 passes for 802 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for 248 yards and three touchdowns. Samuel is one of the most versatile players in the NFL. He can line up as a wide receiver, running back, or slot receiver. He is also a talented returner.
