Brian Wilson, Former Giants Reliever, Retires

Beard, B-Weezy Call It a Career

Ex-closer leaves MLB with a reputation for intimidating batters and growing a legendary beard

Brian Wilson announced his retirement from baseball on Monday, ending a 10-season career in which he became known for his intimidating mound presence and his famous beard.

A 6-foot-3, 225-pound right-hander, Wilson was a key member of the San Francisco Giants' 2010 World Series championship team. He was an All-Star that season and finished with a 4-3 record, a 3.18 ERA, and 102 strikeouts in 70 1/3 innings.

Wilson made his Major League debut with the Giants in 2006 and spent the first eight seasons of his career with the team before being traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2013. He also pitched for the Atlanta Braves, Boston Red Sox, and Milwaukee Brewers.

Wilson was known for his fiery personality and his intense stare on the mound. He also developed a reputation for growing a long, flowing beard, even during the season.

In a statement announcing his retirement, Wilson said he was grateful for his time in the Majors and that he was looking forward to spending more time with his family.

"It's been an incredible journey," Wilson said. "I've had the opportunity to play with some of the best players in the world and to experience the World Series. I'm so grateful for everything that baseball has given me."
